Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
John 17:1-5, NASB
Father, may I finish the temporary work you have given me while not confusing that work with eternal life.
Life is not equal to getting the work done.
Life = Knowing You
Finishing the Work = Bringing You Glory on Earth
When I confuse these two things, knowing you falsely becomes secondary to getting the work done.
In true alignment, Knowing You is the central priority, and it is unending.
In true alignment, Finishing the Work, is the priority which flows out of the central priority, and it is temporary.
The work You give has a starting point and an ending point. Knowing You does not.
The work You give leads to others Knowing You.
The work You give will bring You glory, and will impact others, but it will not glorify me.
My glory comes in your presence. My glory comes from you. My glory comes from nearness.
My glory does not come from the work You have given me.
